in our age of technology and immediate gratification, most of the united states education system has done away with teaching cursive handwriting. this loss is not only an issue in the eyes of artists, but also all craft and technique-based work in our society. though, from a purely design standpoint, this new gap in development for younger generations is certain to affect typography, design processes, and the technicality of design at a global level within the next few decades. it is no secret that handwriting in general is being given less attention and is, therefore, having effects on younger generations’ abilities to communicate; this is sure to translate into the work of new generations of artists, filtering into future trends and changing forever the way in which we view the world through type. in this zine, explore my predictions of future trends in typography based on the new loss of motor skill during these times of chronically online learning. i did research on the importance of teaching handwriting and its origins in design, using this evolution to discuss what comes next for our young artists.
